Community Renewables Champions Training Course Overview

Community owned renewable energy is recognised as a practical solution to the current energy crisis and the issues surrounding climate change. Much adopted in Europe, particularly in Scandinavia, community owned renewable energy is still not widely accepted as an energy option in the UK.  

This course aims to equip Network Volunteers with the knowledge needed to go into communities and explain the processes and options available to adopt a community owned renewable energy system.
 

Course Aims:
The course aims to train Network Volunteers or Champions in community owned renewable energy. It will give the learner an overview of:
  • Renewable energy as a community asset; 

  • Reasons to opt for renewable energy systems instead of fossil fuels;

  • Community working;

  • An overview of renewable energy technologies - Wind, Biomass, Solar, Ground / Air Source Heat and Hydro;

  • Planning your project and funding;

  • The planning process and grid connection.

For: 
The course is for Community Volunteers and Renewable Energy Activists and is free to CoRE Network Members.
 

Experience required: 
No experience is required, but a willingness to communicate knowledge gained from the course with community groups, to extend and expand the understanding of community owned renewable energy is desirable.

Duration:  
To be delivered over 3 days.

Tutors
All tutors involved in delivery of the course have considerable experience of setting up community renewable energy systems and community working.
