Course Overview

The development of renewable energy is a key element of the UK’s strategy to tackle climate change. But it comes in many forms with a variety of advantages and disadvantages. So what renewable technologies are suitable for a given area, what are their various benefits and how can you ensure that the right type of renewable energy is developed?

Community Renewable Energy, is one of the UK’s leading community based developers of renewable energy, from wind turbines to anaerobic digesters. We have developed a practical course to help professionals understand more about community owned renewable energy. It will help you identify suitable types of renewable energy for a specific area and to understand the development process, that moves an idea into a functioning renewable energy system. The one day course will give you an overview of the community renewables development process; so you can champion the development of renewable energy in your organisation.

The course is being led by Keith Richardson, Chair of CoRE and one of its founders. He will be joined by renewable energy experts with direct experience of developing functioning renewable energy systems, from a 1000kW wind turbine to a 30kW biomass heating system.

The course has been designed specifically for busy professionals whose main job is not in the energy field. No experience is required for the course.

Course Aims

By the end of the day you will understand:

·  What renewable energy is and why it is important;

·  How renewable energy can be generated at community level (up to 5000kW);

·  Government incentives for renewables at a community scale;

·  An overview of the pros and cons of renewable energy systems ranging from anaerobic digesters to wind turbines;
